It’s amazing how much cannabis consumption has changed over the years, isn’t it? Forget your usual joint, pipe, or bong for a moment – we’re going to chat about 6 different ways you can enjoy cannabis without smoking it in the traditional sense. Not that those classic methods are bad, but these options really bring something new to the table!
1. Dabbing

No, we’re not talking about the dance move! Dabbing is a really powerful way to consume cannabis. It might feel intense if you’re not used to cannabis much. Here’s how it works: you use something called a “dab rig” (it’s like a water glass pipe). The part that holds the cannabis, or the bowl, gets heated up with a torch. Then, a highly concentrated cannabis oil is melted onto it. This creates a vapor instead of smoke, and some people say that’s better for your lungs. Why is it so powerful? Because that concentrated cannabis oil has way more THC than your average bud – we’re talking a whopping 50% – 90% THC! So, if you’re new to this, definitely take it easy.
2. Vaping

Like we just mentioned, lots of people believe vapor is gentler on your lungs than smoke. I’m not a health expert, so I won’t go into all the details, but I can tell you it definitely feels smoother and easier to inhale! Vaping heats the weed at a lower temperature, which is great because it lets more of those yummy flavors really shine through. Plus, depending on the vape you pick, you can even set the temperature just how you like it.

3. Topicals

It feels like new topicals are popping up all the time! People are finding cool ways to get the good stuff from cannabis without actually consuming it. So, what exactly is a topical? Think cannabis-infused lotions, lip balms, and all sorts of other skincare products. Folks use them for things like sore muscles and achy joints because cannabis has properties that can help calm inflammation. Topicals are a fantastic choice if you’re not keen on feeling “high” because they can help with symptoms without any psychoactive effects.
4. Concentrated Cannabis Capsules

These concentrated capsules are pretty much the same cannabis concentrates used for dabbing, but they’re neatly packed into capsules you swallow. They’re a super convenient option if you need cannabis for health reasons but aren’t comfortable with the idea of smoking it. Just a friendly heads-up: these capsules can take a little while to kick in, so don’t take a bunch all at once! Give them some time to work their magic.

5. Edibles

Remember back in October 2019 when a whole new wave of cannabis products arrived? That included edibles! There are pretty strict rules about how much THC each type of edible can legally contain. Since they can look just like regular food, there are also really careful regulations on how cannabis-infused products are packaged and labeled. Edibles are only sold in individual, low-mg servings as a safety measure. When you eat cannabis, the effects can be quite powerful and might take a while to show up. If you don’t feel anything right away, please wait at least 45 minutes before having more!

6. Cannabis-Infused Beverages

This one is super exciting and new! Now you can find cannabis-infused drinks with both THC and CBD. They even have twice-distilled and flavored carbonated options. These usually have a pretty low content level, around 4 mg, so one won’t get you super high. Think of them kind of like a beer – one might not do much, but after a few, you’ll definitely start feeling a little fuzzy. It’s still wild to me that we can drink cannabis to get high… what will they think of next?!
